How to Stay Cool on the 4th of July
The 4th of July is right around the corner, and everyone will be celebrating Independence Day across the country. That means fireworks, BBQ, parades, and of course, plenty of sunscreen. Are you excited to celebrate but dreading the summer heat? We’ve got some ideas about how to stay cool on the 4th of July.
1. Stay hydrated.
Whether you are throwing a backyard BBQ, heading to a community event, or choosing the best spot to view the fireworks, it is important to remember to drink plenty of water. If you are leaving your home and need to take water with you, get some quality bottles that hold more H2O and keep it cool. Here is a list of the 11 best water bottles on Amazon.
2. Find some fans.
Fans are your friends! For parties at home, keep fans running so that you won’t have to overwork your air conditioner. Bring box fans outside and help friends and family keep cool. If you are leaving home, grab a portable battery-operated fan. Some of them even have spray bottles attached so that you can refresh yourself with water too!
3. Grill outside.
If you are hosting a party, try to prepare as much of your food as possible outdoors. If your stove and oven aren’t heating up your kitchen, your AC won’t have to work even harder to cool your house and the partygoers inside. Even if your family or guests are vegetarians, you can still get in on the BBQ action! Mushrooms, peppers, and corn all taste great roasted on the grill.
4. Celebrate poolside.
If you have a pool in your backyard, then this one is easy. Just invite some friends over (or don’t) and jump in! If not, see if any local pools or water parks are hosting July 4th festivities. Your whole family can enjoy the water, and you won’t have to dread the heat so much.
5. Create your own water fun.
If you don’t own a pool and don’t have access to one, you can still use water to your advantage. Turn on the sprinklers, set up a slip’n slide, or fill up some water balloons! After you’ve enjoyed your tasty grilled treats, splash around in your own backyard with or without a pool.
6. Dress for the heat.
Obviously nobody plans on wearing any serious layers in the middle of July, but be mindful of whether or not your stylish outfit will leave you feeling overheated. A tank top or light t-shirt with shorts or a skirt would be ideal, or if you plan to play in the water, just wear a bathing suit for maximum comfort. Make sure you remember to add sunglasses to your ensemble. They will look cool and protect your eyes.
