Black Friday Cleaning Checklist

Picture this: you just hosted the ultimate Thanksgiving meal. Your whole family asked for extra helpings of your perfectly baked turkey and sides. You are basking in the warm glow of family togetherness. But as soon as the meal is over and your relatives are out the door, you take a look at your house and realize it is in shambles!

If you don’t even know where to start with the post-Thanksgiving mess, you are in luck. Here is the ultimate Black Friday Cleaning Checklist from your friends at Blue Flame.

1. Wipe down the kitchen counters.

Move all of your used dishes to the sink and dishwasher. Wipe all of the gravy spills and pumpkin pie crumbs off of your kitchen counters. This chore is quick and easy, so it’s a great task to delegate to one of the kids.

2. Do the dishes.

This is probably the most tedious aspect of Thanksgiving clean-up. Load as much as you can into the dish washer, and hand wash anything fancy or plastic. If you want to save a little bit on your energy bill, hand dry your dishes with a cloth towel instead of drying them inside the dishwasher.

3. Pick up the living room and dining room.

Grab any stray napkins or paper plates and cups lying around the house and throw them out. Put away any board games or other loose items that found their way off of the shelves while your family was over.

4. Vacuum the floors and the furniture.

Vacuum the floors for loose crumbs. While you’re at it, vacuum furniture and pillows for stray dust and pollen that is upsetting the delicate balance of your indoor air quality. If extra pets were in the house, make sure to vacuum up all of the extra hair. This is particularly important if there is someone with allergies or asthma living in your household.

5. Change your air filter.

While you are running through your chore checklist, make a point to change your air filter. It is best to change your filter every 30 – 90 days to ensure your HVAC works efficiently and your air stays clean. But many homeowners forget about this task and leave it on the backburner. Use your post-Thanksgiving cleanup as an opportunity to remind yourself to get it done. You will thank yourself when winter is in full swing this December and January – and your furnace is working extra hard.

Now that your Black Friday Cleaning Checklist is complete, you can breathe easier.
